Are you jealous? - 2006-06-04
read a blog about jealousy from ununique.net which I found pretty interesting.
At first I was going to comment the blog but knowing Eivind reads my blog sometimes I thought I'd do something more elaborated and write a counter blog.
You wont understand this blog unless you've read his blog.
The thought of jealousy as a foundation of hate or dislike between people is pretty interesting, I do however not agree; It is true that jealousy creates anger and irritation but does it make you dislike people? I guess that depends on how you define "dislike". If you think that to dislike someone is to say it out loud and try to convince your self that you dislike someone then yeah... jealousy is often the cause. But the question is, do you really dislike that person or do you just fool your self because you're so envious?
Eivind? Are you sure about your dislike for these people? ;)
I try not to be be jealous on people, One must recognize that we're different, you might envy a persons voice, body, skill in math, ability to paint or write but you can be fairly certain that the person in question envy you or someone else for another ability. We always strive for the things we don't master and that's a good thing, but one must also recognize the abilities or beauty one self posses.
And oh, I hate christians as well...

This does, more or less obviously, apply to certain character traits and not everything, as you describe. Some of the people I was talking about are - after all - my friends. I'm not particularily fond of being jealous myself, but I find it easier to see that I am than to deny it.. however, to answer your question, I'm probably just defining dislike slightly different, indeed. The dislike for the people in question is mostly based on jealousy, I think - but to me, my body produces the same feeling if I dislike them for other reasons or am jealous at them. And when the feeling is the same, I don't see why I shouldn't call it the same?
