Raw formats - 2006-03-27

I love the depth of macro!

I've been playing around with a Konica Minolta Z5 for some time now and I've realized it's time for a better camera. While I would like a digital system camera I can't afford the lenses... Nikon D50 camera with a macro lens costs around 1000 dollar, which is a bit much. So I'm thinking of the Nikon coolpix 8800 which has all features I need, the only problem as I see it is the 3cm macro boundary; I would have preferred 1cm.

Anyway... i've played with images in Photoshop since I was around 10 years old so it's a hobby of mine. I've never tried to edit the raw format before today and I must say... Wow! Some difference from the regular jpg. I knew it was pure data so the color modifications would be none destructive but seeing it in action was something special. I must have the raw format on my future camera! Coolpix 8800 does of course support this format.

RAW is a lot of fun indeed! I can't image not shooting in RAW anymore.. only problem is that processing it is a tad slow on my 1.33 PB.. And is the 3cm macro real-real? SLR macro lenses have a significantly larger boundry.. my macro lens is a 80mm and has a limit of 25cm..
