To run your own business - 2007-03-21
People often wonder why since it's all but glamourous in sweden.
I guess I do it for a lot of reasons, I will explain most of them in this blog.
This blog is long so I'm too lazy to read it again in search for typos and stuff.
Freedom
I've spent my entire youth getting listening to adults telling me that I have to succeed in school, I have to get good grades or my life is ruined! Those middle age people think they know best in every way but they're so dead wrong according to me. At some point i got so tired of their mentality that i stopped listening to them. When I was around 17-18 I had decided what I would do and that was to start my own business and work with web, or rather I wanted to do it with friends but that's complicated and long story short I ended up running my own business.
To be in charge of my own work is worth more to me than having a stable and better income. I can't stand people telling me what to do. To sit at a job day out and day in developing web pages under some boss? No thanks.
Working hours
I'm not a morning person, I'm a night owl. It's in fact almost 4 AM when I write this blog and I've just finished working on a few things. I need the evenings and night for my work since I and my surroundings are calm and quite. I of course always leave my phone on in the mornings if someone needs to come in contact with me. Some of my closest clients are like "Hi Tobias, sorry to wake you but..." which is of course kind of awkward but it's good that they know I sleep and don't call if it isn't necessarily, one of the reasons why I can do this is probably because I "play with open cards" so to say.
Working rules
It's the same as with working hours I guess, I can make up my own rules. If I want to take a glass of whine or two when I'm working I can. Or if I want to go out and take pictures of insects I can do that too! I can do whatever I want as long as i get the work done.
To build, to create
In my whole life, i've had the need to make everything my self. When I was a child i always wanted to make my own candy (which mum wasn't always to happy about since it meant more work for her hehe ;)). I can't find motivation to do anything if I'm not building something. I remember mum saying something like "You always had to make your own candy when you where a child, should have known you had to do your own company when you got older" a few month ago.
Lifestyle
I often appear to live a chill life, to do what I want and not work that much and I guess I kind o play on that too but that really isn't the case. I don't do this because I want to chill but because I want to build. And just because people don't notice me working since I don't talk about it a lot on my free time and I don't work normal hours doesn't mean I have my periods where I work much. I just choose when and how.
money
I don't earn a lot of money since the swedish government hate people who run their own business but I don't ind money important, I want to be able to live on what I do and that's enough for me. What's important is that you do in life what you want to do.
